One of the photographers that has most influenced my work and has most inspired me as an artist is Annie Leibovitz. No, I've never met her (I wish), but the book she co-authored with Susan Sontag titled Women is probably my favorite book on photography. It was the first expensive photography book I purchased when it came out in 1999, and I have carefully moved it with me up and down the state of CA, and cross country to NC where is is one of the few books I actually display on the sofa table. It is the type of book that you can just spend hours studying...her pictures capture a spirit that is absolutely intriguing.
So, it was no surprise to my husband when I was rambling non-stop in the bookstore the other day as I realized she has another book out -- At Work. It certainly lived up to my expectations as I devoured each page over the past week :) Annie Leibovitz is surprisingly humble for a woman who has defined herself as one of the best photographers of our time, and this book shares her career path in photography and the creative side behind so many of her famous images.
